I love yoga with Sunstone but having reached the over 200 class mark, I feel like my progression has slowed to almost nothing.  Is there anything I can do get over this plateau?  Have you thought about offering a special class for the more experienced to help us fine tune our postures?

Hi Liz, the new FIRE 60 is going to challenge you in new ways, because you'll be holding in your postures longer, and that will allow you to really focus on breath, alignment, and strength to go deeper into the poses. Mixing it up with more Earth and Metal classes can stimulate your body and brain in new ways, and 84 Asanas on Fridays @ Plano are a fantastic way to spend the afternoon. It isn't uncommon to hit plateaus when we are practicing consistently, but there are always new places to go and in my experience, I've found the plateaus to be temporary. It is pretty easy after 200 classes to slip into a comfortable place in each posture and just hold it, rather than push yourself into that "beginner state" time and time again, taking the risk of falling out of a posture to see if you can go a little farther. Find something else to focus on for a few weeks - your eye gaze, or your glutes contracting, your chest lifting up just a little higher - each tiny aspect of the poses offers a universe of change for the whole body. If you are willing to push yourself into new territory, your wonder at what your body is capable of will return.

I agree that the Earth and Metal classes are fabulous for helping you in your advancement, but there are hardly ANY Metal classes!!! I can hardly ever make the ones that are offered because of my schedule. It would be great if each studio could work in at least one more Metal class per week!!!

Hey! I am getting close to the 200 class mark and do understand the plateau problem. I recently started teacher training and have quickly learned so many things that I can do to better my practice. I recently attended a lab discussing the postures and our individual bodies. It was AMAZING! Maybe you could take a private class and find ways to deepen your practice. I learned so much about why I love certain postures and dislike others. As it turns out, the others are really the ones that I need to focus on! Good luck with your journey, Elizabeth

I think we can all agree that yoga is an ongoing journey and perhaps has no ultimate destination. Who of us can say that 100% of our basics are always fully in practice. Postures seem to improve on a 3-dimensional plane: You may hit places where you feel you've got it all, but if you re-visit all of the basics you will most likely find areas to work on which may appear to make you go a step backwards but in reality you are adding more depth and strength to the basic pose. Slowing down the entry and exit of each pose will bring more awareness of small mis-alignments or imbalances which can then become areas of focus and will result in a stronger practice.
