    Hi Sean,
Brandon and I have tried a couple of different styles in the hot room and the best we have found so far are the Sauvage shorts we sell in the studio. The short is a square cut swimming trunk and once you decide to step into the shorts you will not look back. The design is supportive and allows a greater freedom of movement in the Hot room yoga class. There is a initial fear at first because they are a short cut exposing the whole thigh, the advantage to this style it allows the student to see their alignment clearly and the material is designed to get wet! Some guys wear mid thigh bike shorts and they seem to like them. I have noticed guys occasionally wearing the board shorts style however there is a restriction of movement when going into a deep lunge especially in triangle pose.
If you find a style of short that is comfortable in the Hot room let us know we would appreciate the feed back.

    Sean,

I have tried several different shorts over the past couple years and Nicole is right - the Sauvage are the best. They are rather revealing, however, so aren't for everyone.

The one complaint I have with them is that they will ride up on me in some postures so I find myself adjusting them during class. What is needed is a short of the same material but with 1-2" longer inseam and a nice wide elastic band around the thigh to keep them in place. Perhaps Sunstone could work with a clothing vendor to create the 'perfect' hot yoga short - complete with the Sunstone logo!

Hi there Sean. Be Present makes a guy's short that is great for the hot room. You may have seen some women in class sporting the pants. The material is great. It wicks sweat away from your body. They also dry very quickly. We have actually just gotten some to carry in the studios. They will first be carried by Plano, but let me know what studio you attend and what size you wear- I can bring some for you to try! My email is angelabrister@sunstoneyoga.com . Hope that helps!

Try the Reflex series from Lululemon. They have plenty of stretch to accomodate postures like triangle. This short is actually two shorts within one. The inner short is tight and supportive; the outer short is loose, like a running short, which is not revealing. The shorts are long - they stop about 3 inches above the knee. Expensive ($60+), but worth every penny.

I wear the super short running shorts made by various companies (Nike, etc...) and then wear underwear that matches the liner. You get the "retention" without the thigh/hip restriction that knee-length or even mid-thigh shorts have. The running shorts also give you more modesty than the body-hugging stretch fabrics... just no looking forward during pigeon those of you behind me!

    Hi Sean,
I wear the DownDawg shorts from Lululemon. They stretch in every direction and they don't reveal too much. I find that the inner short does ride up a little, but they allow me to concentrate on my practice rather than what I'm wearing. I've been able to find them on sale at the stores for between $40 and $50. I agree with Ben, I'd love it if Sunstone helped to create more yoga clothes for men. I'd definitely buy affordable, flattering, hot yoga clothing for men.

My personal favorite is the "Pillar short" from 72K. Reasonable at $39.00

Not as revealing as others and they wear like iron. I have had a pair I use at least once or twice a week for the past three years and are not showing sign of wear. Only downside is color selection, just standard charcoal, black and navy.

Not too tight but not too loose, this short features a moisture-wicking inside 'bathing suit' liner made of coolmax to keep you supported and dry. The waistband is elastic with an inside drawstring. The short itself is made from moisture-wicking Dryflex fabric that is soft, rather than stiff.
