I have been practicing on/off for about 6 years. Earlier this year, I started coming regularly and then haven't practiced too much since April. I have been on Weight Watchers since June and I'm now getting back into yoga. This thread has really given me some insight! I have been wondering if coming to yoga regularly along with watching my food, if I can start losing consistently. I have bumped up my water intake a lot as well as eating a whole lot more fruits/veggies. I'm just hoping for a good 1-2 pounds a week to start coming off.

Good luck Katie. I did Weight Watchers and had some success but things got busy and budget stings tightened so I quit. I never did it in conjunction with yoga. Sounds like a recipe for success.
Maybe someday I'll join you and we can be WW buddies.

Yoga is helping me a lot in weight loss. When I joined Sunstone yoga classes 2 months ago; my weight was 148+ lbs. Now it is around 138 lbs. I lost more than 10 lbs in just 2 months.
As soon as I joined the classes, I started with the 60 day yoga challenge. A friend of mine has a personal trainer at 24 hr fitness. He gave me some tips on counting daily calorie intake and how to reduce weight.
He told me that when we burn 3500 calories, we loose one pound of weight. I ate roughly around 1600-2000 calories each day and attended yoga classes 5 days a week. I made sure to not stuff myself with heavy meals and took 4 to 5 smaller meals.

Just to add my experience: Yoga has helped shift my focus to healthy decisions. Because I am more aware of my body, I choose healthier foods, have increased my water intake, stopped smoking, changed sleep patterns, rediscovered my active side - dance, climbing, kayaking, etc. An overall lifestyle change, I lost 3 sizes. So.. for me it was as much mental as physical.
