I have very flexible hips and such and I am getting quite close to being able to do Lord of the Dance without the strap. How is one supposed to go into the pose without the assistance of the strap. Im specifically looking for advice on foot grips.

Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,

I just got my Lord of the Dance without a strap last week! I found that I have to be very warmed up and strong to get into the pose with or without a strap, so make sure you're prepared before you go for it. Let me see if I can explain the foot grip... You bend up your knee and then turn your foot out, away from your body, internally rotating at the hip so that your leg is somewhat out to the side, not behind you. The hand grip is palm up, scoop up the top of the foot, which is actually on the bottom now. The hold on tightly and bring your elbow forward and be gentle with your shoulder as you rotate your arm until it is over your head and you have your grip without the strap. Then take your other arm up and grab either your foot or the griping wrist, and voila! Be sure to use the strength of your glute to kick up, and really squeeze the muscles in your back to support the huge back bend. Hope this is helpful!

Happy dancing to you,

Tina
