I recently tried the trial membership at Sunstone, and really enjoyed it. While trying to scrape together the money for a membership, however, I somehow managed to injure my left rotator cuff. I was in terrible pain all the time for two weeks, and now am just in pain when I put any weight on the shoulder. My insurance won't cover physical therapy. I know yoga can help me eventually strengthen my shoulder up again, but I'm not sure how I'm supposed to know when my shoulder is ready to begin rehabilitation. Also, I'm terrified of injuring it again. Does anyone have any suggestions? I know the earth series is way too much for me right now, but would the wood series help at all? I'm really missing my yoga practice and can't wait until I can start it back up.

Hi Amy. It is definitely possible that Wood can help you; depending on the nature and severity of the injury. Having your doctor's ok to proceed is always a good idea, and we recommend you see Derrek Taber, our master yoga specialist, beforehand. Derrek uses a variety of Pain Free Yoga techniques and Wood Class postures to help you reset any muscles that are weakened or shut down from the injury, and then he will "prescribe" the right combination of postures you can do, either at home, or in the Wood or Fire classes, to rebuild your strength.

You can send Derrek a message through the website: his user name is derrektaber.
His phone number 972-768-4876
His Email is: derrektaber@hotmail.com

Let us know how you recovery goes. If Pain Free Yoga helps you, we'd love to hear about it!
Thanks.
Helen

I would only do light stretching with the shoulder and the wood class that comes after earth or metal only, if you have to put any weight on it make sure you are on your knees to take pressure off the shoulder. Give me a call if you have any more questions.

Derrek
