Hi, my name is Vanessa. I just started Sunstone Yoga on Friday June 27th. I have taken some yoga classes in the past, but never stuck with it.

Then my frustration with losing the rest of my weight got me to speak with a trainer. I am very active, doing hardcore cardio 4 times a week, but nothing was happening. The trainer weighed me, tested my strength, body fat count....and then the 'kicker'....my flexibility.....it was horrible. I have no flexibility. He told me that flexibilty has ALOT to do with losing weight, more oxygen and blood pouring into your muscles making them stronger, and as we all know, muscle burns fat, and the stronger your muscles are the more flexible you become and more fat you burn.~ok, if that is not totally right, forgive me, but I know its close
So, after my session, I thought...I need to do yoga again. So here I am. And I am on a mission. I just completed my 4th class this morning. I am trying to do 1 class per day, it might be hard with a 2 and a 5 year old, but I have been finding ways. I really want this.

I feel great, and I dont even crave anything 'bad'. I just want to eat healthy all the time.

Bye Bye Unflexible woman and unwanted fat....dont let the door hit you on the way out!!!

Look forward to meeting some fellow yoga buddies. I practice yoga at the park and preston location.

Welcome Vanessa!

I’m sure you’ll have no problem at all finding yoga buddies; everyone I’ve talked to has been incredibly supportive and helpful.

Sounds like you have quite a few challenges but it’s awesome that you’re working to get your life balance set up so you can begin this practice. You might want to look up info on the 13 Obstacles of Yoga so you can prepare, I find myself personally plagued by Styana, Stanshaya, and Alasya but knowing that has allowed me to prepare for them and fight them off.

My own situation while not exactly the same is quite similar, I have a lot of weight that needs to come off; the irony is that I was finally able to start yoga after I decided I wasn’t going to worry about it anymore and just do the things I wanted to do after I was “skinny” anyway.

My introduction to sunstone actually happened about a year and half ago and I did 11 classes over the course of a few months. I was lucky enough to have one of the sunstone instructors, Chris McGraw, in my economics class and he convinced me to give it a try. Unfortunately I never made any major commitments and just kinda let the yoga fizzle out as another project I kinda started but decided not to follow through with.

Over the past bit of time I’ve been able to develop a somewhat sane work/life/school balance and am desperately working to make yoga a set part of my life, towards that end I have my own personal goal. On July 18th I am going to be visiting my sister and it’s my goal to have made yoga into a good habit before I fly out so…it's popularly understood that a habit is formed by doing something everyday for 21 days...so I'm trying to attend 21 classes (since my return) before that day. I started this personal challenge when I returned on June 24th and have thus far attended 9 classes (dragging my Fiancee to 7 of them), I have 17 more opportunities in which to accomplish 12 classes which gives me a bit of wiggle room for the July 4th things.

I also practice in Plano so keep an eye out for a super large guy wearing an obnoxiously large blue shirt and superman shorts.

I enjoyed both of your posts, seeing that yesterday was my first yoga experience ever. I have several friends very much into yoga life but it always just seemed "too hard" so I never tried it. But, I said when I was ready I would and that I would fully committ. SO, now my goal is to get in 6 classes over the next 10 days. Last night was TORTURE (FIRE class) but I'm determined to keep coming back - even if I am the only one sitting on the floor trying to catch my breath!

Btw, Vanessa, i am also NOT flexible AT ALL - so that's been another reason I've never even tried. But, no more - i'm doing it!

Good job you guys!
